Scott Weaver is a Research Meteorologist at NOAA.s Climate Prediction Center where he is engaged in analyzing, monitoring, and assessing the simulation and prediction of MJO variability in a suite of NCEP climate model simulations and observations. He received a B.S. from Rutgers University in Meteorology (2000) and an M.S. (2003) and PhD (2007) in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science from the University of Maryland. He is the recipient of the University of Maryland.s Distinguished Teaching Assistant Award for 2005.

Dr. Weaver's research interests are rooted in dynamic and diagnostic analyses of North American hydroclimate variability in observationally constrained and climate model datasets. His recent research is notable for diagnosing Great Plains low-level jet (GPLLJ) variations and hydroclimate impacts on intraseasonal to interannual timescales, including sensitivity to recurring modes of globally derived sea surface temperature (SST) variability. The GPLLJ is a vital part of the water cycle as it transports and processes approximately one-half of the moisture for summertime precipitation over the central U.S. Related interests include the characterization of extreme climatic events (i.e., droughts and floods) to improve understanding of their generation mechanisms in an effort to produce more robust hydroclimate predictions. To this end Dr. Weaver has conducted research focused on understanding the sub-monthly evolution of regional circulation and land-surface states during recent warm season central U.S. drought and flood episodes including their connectivity to the ENSO and NAO climate variability modes.
