The pattern of global tropical sea surface temperature
(SST) during June 2005 featured near-average SSTs everywhere except negative
anomalies in the eastern equatorial
and off the coast of
. SST anomalies in the tropical North Atlantic remained positive, a feature
that has persisted for the last few months. The SST anomaly in the Niņo 3.4
region remained positive during June (latest value 0.6) while the Niņo 1+2
anomaly is -0.5 (Fig. T18, Table T2).
- Darwin SOI was slightly positive (Table T1,
Fig. T1). The overall
patterns of convection, SST, low-level winds and upper-level winds were near
average over the tropical Pacific during June, which is consistent with ENSO-neutral
The global Tropics featured enhanced convection
and the Central America/Caribbean region and
near-average convection elsewhere (Fig. T25).
