Data Distribution

Observed monthly data-profile distributions in longitude-latitude plane are based on horizontal locations (latitude, longitude) of the profile. e.g., there is only one point shown even if a mooring at (8N, 95W) observes data at different depths every day of the month; there is 30 points shown if a float changes its horizontal position every day of the month.

One "+" in accepted and all data profiles represents about 30 profiles, and One "+" in rejected data profile represents only one profile.

To show how deep the profile is, the profile-data distributions are separated into four layers: 0-250, 250-500, 500-1000, and below 1000 meters. Since the data-profile distribution plots do not represent well the profiles taken at fixed locations, we also present time series of number of profiles accumulated monthly for latitude bands of each ocean basin.
