1. Northwestern United States and Southwestern Canada:
WET WEATHER CONTINUES
Between 25 and 100 mm of rain soaked coastal locations while 10 to 25 mm accumulated across the interior during the past week. Locally heavier rains, up to 200 mm, fell on Vancouver Island. Precipitation totaled 200 to 500 mm during the past 8 weeks, allowing short-term moisture surpluses of 50 to 250 mm to accumulate [WET - Up to 8 weeks].
2. Texas:
DRY ANOMALY DEVELOPS
Little or no rain fell on much of Texas during the past week as unusually dry conditions developed. Precipitation totals were generally less than 10 mm for the past 4 weeks and were among the lowest 10% of the climatological distribution [DRY - Up to 6 weeks].
3. Northeastern United States and Southeastern Canada:
SUBNORMNAL TEMPERATURES REMAIN
Weekly temperature departures of -2°C to -5°C dominated the region, but temperatures were as much as 8°C below normal in southeastern Canada. Lows plummeted below -20°C in central Quebec while subfreezing lows dominated the remainder of the region. Highs of 20°C or higher were restricted to the United States and southern Ontario [COLD - Up to 3 weeks].
4. Honduras:
UNUSUALLY COOL CONDITIONS REPORTED
Temperatures were generally 2°C below normal, with lows dropping below 20°C [COLD - Up to 3 weeks].
5. Central South America:
DRY ANOMALY PERSISTS
Much of Bolivia and Paraguay received fewer than 25 mm of rain while totals reached as high as 100 mm on the southeastern fringes of the region. Between 75 and 200 mm of precipitation accumulated during the last 8 weeks, yielding shortfalls of 50 to 125 mm [DRY - Up to 6 weeks].
6. East-Central South America:
COLD AIR REMAINS ENTRENCHED
Weekly departures of -2°C to -4°C prevailed across Paraguay and southern Brazil. Despite the cool weather, highs generally exceeded 30°C, and the mercury remained above freezing [COLD - Up to 3 weeks].
7. East-Central Argentina:
TORRENTIAL RAINS REPORTED
An intense storm system produced widespread rain and thunderstorms across Argentina on the 18th and 19th of April. Torrential rains pounded the provinces of Buenos Aires and La Pampa, with 181 mm of rainfall reported in Santa Rosa, La Pampa on the 18th [Episodic Event].
8. North Atlantic and Western Europe:
ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPERATURES PERSIST
Temperatures averaged 2°C to 7°C above normal, with weekly departures exceeding +8°C in Iceland and +10°C in Norway. Highs exceeded 20°C across the British Isles while lows remained above -10°C, except at higher elevations in Norway [WARM - Up to 3 weeks].
9. Europe:
STILL VERY DRY
Most of Europe received little or no rain during the past week, but 10 to 100 mm of rain fell on Ireland and on the Balkans. Most of the Continent received less than 200 mm during the past 13 weeks, with locally higher totals of up to 350 mm. Moisture deficits generally ranged from 50 to 200 mm, but reached as high as 450 mm at some higher elevations [DRY - Up to 12 weeks].
10. Southeastern Europe and Central Asia:
COLD ANOMALY EXPANDS EASTWARD
Temperatures were 6°C to 11°C below normal across much of Kazakhstan, south-central Asian Russia, and northwestern China. Lows plummeted below -20°C as far south as western Mongolia (about 47°N) and fell below freezing across the entire region, except for the extreme southern fringes. Highs above 20°C were confined to southern Kazakhstan and northern China [COLD - Up to 6 weeks].
11. Southern Asia:
WARM WEATHER COVERS MUCH OF SOUTHERN ASIA
Weekly temperature departures ranged from +2°C to +6°C across Asia from Pakistan eastward to Korea and Japan. Highs exceeded 40°C in India, climbed above 30°C in southern China, and reached at least 20°C elsewhere. Subfreezing lows were confined to the northern fringes of the region [WARM - Up to 4 weeks].
12. Northern Australia:
MORE VERY DRY WEATHER
