1. Alaska:
ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPERATURES DOMINATE ALASKA
Weekly departures of +2°C to +7°C covered most of Alaska. Highs generally ranged from 5°C to 22°C, but weekly lows were generally below the freezing mark [WARM - Up to 3 weeks].
2. Southern Alberta:
UNUSUALLY WET WEATHER REPORTED
Up to 25 mm of precipitation fell during the past week. Four-week totals of 60 to 120 mm were among the highest 10% of the climatological distribution [WET - Up to 5 weeks].
3. Western United States:
HEAVY RAINS DRIFT SOUTHWARD
Unusually late-season storms dropped 25 to 150 mm of precipitation on much of California while fewer than 25 mm were reported in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Precipitation totals ranged from 100 mm at interior locations to 650 mm along the coast, yielding short-term moisture surpluses of 50 to 270 mm [WET - Up to 10 weeks].
4. California:
UNUSUALLY COOL CONDITIONS PREVAIL
Temperatures averaged 2°C to 6°C below normal across much of California again last week primarily due to excessive cloudiness from frequent Pacific storms. The mercury failed to reach 30°C at most locations, except for the southeastern deserts [COLD - Up to 3 weeks].
5. Texas:
STILL VERY DRY
Except for isolated light to moderate rain showers (10 to 100 mm), most of the state received little or no rain. Fewer than 100 mm of rain accumulated during the last 2 months, resulting in shortfalls of 50 to 125 mm [DRY - Up to 8 weeks].
6. Midwestern United States:
PRECIPITATION SHORTAGES REMAIN
Although moderate rains (25 to 100 mm) fell on northern Illinois and southern Michigan, most of the area received fewer than 25 mm. Precipitation totals were fewer than 50 mm during the last 4 weeks, and were among the lowest 10% of the climatological distribution for the same period [DRY - Up to 5 weeks].
7. Southeastern United States:
HIGHLY VARIBALE RAINS REPORTED
Scattered showers delivered 25 to 125 mm of rain to many locations while neighboring areas received fewer than 25 mm. During the last 8 weeks, 200 to 400 mm of rain resulted in short-term moisture surpluses of 50 to 210 mm [WET - Up to 7 weeks].
8. Central South America:
MORE VERY WET WEATHER IN EASTERN SECTIONS, FAVORABLY DRY FURTHER WEST
Torrential rains (more than 100 mm) soaked northern Uruguay, extreme southern Brazil, and east-central Argentina. In sharp contrast, little or no rain fell on the western fringes of the region. Precipitation during the last 8 weeks totaled 100 to 600 mm, resulting in short-term moisture excesses of 50 to 350 mm [WET - Up to 8 weeks].
9. Europe:
PRECIPITATION DEFICITS AND ABOVE-NORMAL TEMPERATURES REMAIN
Moderate rains (25 to 100 mm) provided some relief to the British Isles, Benelux Countries, North Sea Coast of Germany, Denmark, and higher elevations of Switzerland. Fewer than 25 mm were reported elsewhere. Highly variable 3-month totals ranged from 10 to 300 mm, yielding precipitation shortfalls of 50 to 435 mm [DRY - Up to 14 weeks]. Temperatures were generally 2°C to 7°C above normal, with the highest departures reported across southeastern Europe. Highs were generally in the thirties (°C) in the Balkans and in the twenties (°C) elsewhere. The above-normal temperatures exacerbated the dryness across the Continent [WARM - Up to 5 weeks].
10. Southwestern Asia and Northeastern Africa:
COLD CONDITIONS SPREAD
Unusually cold weather characterized by temperature departures of -2°C to -5°C, spread across the Middle East and northeastern Africa while weekly departures approached -9°C in parts of Kazakhstan. Highs were generally in the high twenties and low thirties (°C), but subfreezing lows were restricted to Turkey [COLD - Up to 8 weeks].
11. Southwestern Asia:
ABNORMALLY WET CONDITIONS PREVAIL
Between 10 and 50 mm of precipitation fell on southeastern Turkey, extreme northern Iran, and Turkmenistan last week. The 50 to 110 mm of precipitation during the last 28 days was among the highest 10% of the climatological distribution [WET - Up to 6 weeks].
12. Kenya:
TORRENTIAL RAINS REPORTED
Between 100 and 200 mm of rain drenched much of the interior of Kenya. The 150 to 500 mm of rain during the last 28 days was among the highest 10% of the climatological distribution [WET - Up to 5 weeks].
13. Southeastern Africa:
STILL UNUSUALLY DRY
Little or no rain fell on southeastern South Africa during the past week. Fewer than 25 mm of rain has fallen during the last 4 weeks, with totals among the lowest 10% of the climatological distribution [DRY - Up to 6 weeks].
14. Eastern Asia:
MORE VERY WARM WEATHER
Temperatures averaged 2°C to 5°C above normal, with highs ranging from 20°C to 36 °C. Subfreezing lows were limited to the northern portions of China and North Korea [WARM - Up to 7 weeks].
