Precipitation totals since June 22 were generally less than 100 mm and were among the lowest 10% of the climatological distribution [DRY - Up to 8 weeks].

3. Eastern United States:

WETNESSS CONTINUE

Moderate to heavy rain showers spread 50 to 125 mm of rain over much of the eastern third of the United States. Since May 22, between 400 and 1100 mm of rain produced 13-week moisture surpluses of 100 to 850 mm [WET - Up to 22 weeks].

4. Western Europe:

DRY WEATHER PREVAILS

Little or no rain again fell in Western Europe from France northward into Scandinavia. During the last 8 weeks, precipitation totals generally remained below 100 mm, yielding short-term moisture deficits of 50 to 150 mm [DRY - Up to 12 weeks].

5. Western Europe and Northwestern Africa:

HEAT WAVE CONTINUES IN WESTERN EUROPE

Weekly departures of +2°C to +5°C covered western Europe and northwestern Africa with departures of +5°C to +9°C prevailing in France and Switzerland. 10. Japan:

MORE TORRENTIAL RAIN

Very heavy to torrential rains (150 to 300 mm) inundated the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku and much of Honshu. The rains followed the heavy rains brought by Typhoon Etau from the previous week.
