1. Southeastern United States:

COLD POCKET REMAINS
Weekly departures of -2°C to -4°C prevailed across the southeastern United States, with the largest negative departures dominating Florida. Subfreezing lows dominated the entire region, except for the southern half of Florida, where lows ranged from 1°C to 10°C [COLD - Up to 11 weeks].

2. Spain, Portugal, and Morocco:

HEAVY RAINS SHIFT SOUTHWARD
Between 25 and 100 mm of rain soaked western Spain, Portugal, and the northern half of Morocco during the past week. Since mid-November most of the region has received 100 to 500 mm of rain, resulting in moisture surpluses of 50 to 360 mm. A few isolated coastal locations in Spain and Portugal reported 8-week totals of 700 to 1050 mm, and moisture excesses of 400 to 700 mm [WET - Up to 20 weeks].

3. Southern Europe, Southwestern Asia, and Northern Africa:

UNSEASONABLY MILD CONDITIONS DOMINATE
Temperatures averaged 6°C to 14°C above normal across western Kazakhstan and southwestern Russia, with the mercury climbing across the freezing mark throughout the region. Readings below -20°C were restricted to the extreme northeastern fringes of the region. Meanwhile, weekly departures of +2°C to +6°C dominated southern Europe and northern Africa. The mercury soared above 20°C across the Mediterranean Basin, except at higher elevations of the Atlas Mountains in Africa and across the interior portions of southern Europe [WARM - Up to 17 weeks].

4. Western Africa:

STILL UNUSUALLY WARM
Temperatures remained 2°C to 4°C above normal across Senegal, the Gambia, and southern Mali, with weekly highs ranging from 32°C to 39°C [WARM - Up to 6 weeks].

5. Siberia:

BITTERLY COLD CONDITIONS PERSIST
Weekly departures of -6°C to -22°C dominated the entire region, with the mercury failing to reach -20°C except along the southern fringes of the region. In addition, lows of -40°C to -53°C covered most of Siberia [COLD - Up to 14 weeks].

6. Eastern Australia:

MORE VERY DRY WEATHER
Little or no rain fell on Victoria, New South Wales, and southern Queensland this past week as abnormally dry weather persisted. Most locations received fewer than 100 mm of rain during the past 8 weeks, with precipitation shortfalls ranging from 50 mm at interior locations to 180 mm along the coast [DRY - Up to 7 weeks].

7. Southern Australia:

HIGH TEMPERATURES RETURN
Temperatures averaged 2°C to 6°C above normal across the southern half of Australia, with weekly departures of +6°C to +7°C across South Australia, southeastern Western Australia, and northwestern Victoria. Highs ranged from 40°C to 47°C across the interior while readings of 30°C to 39°C prevailed along coastal regions [WARM - Up to 8 weeks].
