Indian Ocean regional meteorological products have been created in support of international humanitarian
relief efforts in wake of the December 26, 2004 earthquake and tsunami off the coast of Sumatra. More specifically, a
request from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for
graphical and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) formatted analysis and forecast products has been fulfilled.
A rapid response to this request was facilitated by an ongoing partnership between the
NOAA Climate Prediction Center and the USAID Famine Early Warning
System (FEWS-NET) project with support from the Office of US Foreign Disaster
Assistance (OFDA). Data
provided via this link is intended to inform the user of the past weekly, current, and forecast weekly precipitation and
temperature throughout the region, while the Indian Ocean and Western Pacific Basins are monitored for cyclone activity
via daily products that reflect the current meteorological situation in the area.
