Abstract Title: Status of the NOAA CFSRR project

Abstract: The Climate Forecast System Reanalysis and Reforecast (CFSRR) project is a major project that has been developed and executed by a team of scientists from EMC and CPC of NCEP. The goal of the project is to provide a consistent data assimilation system that will provide initial conditions for the next generation CFS seasonal forecasts (fully coupled) and a new seasonal forecast model. The reanalysis and reforecast project will provide a 28-year complete data set of reforecasts to be used to provide skill estimates and calibration for real time seasonal forecasts. The project has started in 2008 and should allow NCEP to implement the upgrade of the CFS in 2010. We will discuss problems we encountered so far and show examples of the monitoring results. Comparisons with earlier reanalysis efforts will also be shown.
