Abstract Title: Overview of the 2008 North American Monsoon: Introducing the CPC NAME Forecast Forum

Abstract: For the 2008 North American Monsoon (NAM) season, CPC has introduced a new operational product to provide users a forum to monitor the NAM. As part of the North American Monsoon Experiment (NAME) Forecast Forum, three modeling groups have collaborated to provide model-simulated seasonal precipitation forecasts in the monsoon region. The website currently includes spatial maps and accumulated precipitation area-averaged over eight sub regions of the NAM domain. The website is updated daily to include the current observed precipitation and a weekly update of the current conditions of the NAM system has been added to CPC’s American Monsoons monitoring webpage, http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/Global_Monsoons/American_Monsoons/NAME/index.shtml.
