In support of climate monitoring, climate prediction and applied
research, the Climate Prediction Center has developed several
retrospective analyses at daily time scales:
* U.S. hourly precipitation (HPD) analysis (1948-March, 1999)
* U.S. daily precipitation analysis(realtime,January,1996-present)
* U.S. Unified Daily Precipitation Analysis(retrospective,1948-1997)
* US_Mexico daily precipitation analysis(retrospective, 1948-1990)
* South American daily precipitation analysis(retrospective,January 1,2000-present)
These datasets, except for the Unified Daily Precipitation Analysis, are available via anonymous ftp
at the following site:

for U.S. hourly precipitation analysis go to /pub/precip/wd52ws/hpd
for realtime U.S. daily precipitation analysis go to /pub/precip/wd52ws/us_daily
for retrospective US_Mexico daily precipitation analysis go to /pub/precip/wd52ws/us-mex
for retrospective South American daily precipitation analysis go to /pub/precip/wd52ws/SA
The Unified Daily Precipitation Analysis over the U.S. is available. However, the size of the dataset is prohibitive. While CPC cannot assume the responsibility of servicing the data needs of the climate commun
ity, we have
made arrangements with several established data distribution centers. CDC has tra
nsferred the
dataset to NetCDF format and is currently hosting it on their web site
(http://www.cdc.noaa.gov/c
dc/data.unified.html). UCAR JOSS is hosting the dataset under the
CODIAC system (http://www.joss.ucar.edu/
codiac). CPC has also contacted NCDC about
hosting the dataset.
