Mark Cornick is the Linux systems administrator at CPC since October, 2009. In this role, he is responsible for support of all of CPC's Linux systems, including individual desktops, servers, disk and tape storage, and other bits and pieces. He installs and maintains software, applies system patches and updates, runs regular backups, and generally keeps the Linux infrastructure running as smoothly as possible.

Mark has over 15 years' experience with Linux and UNIX systems, beginning with SunOS and Solaris and passing through nearly every significant Linux distribution on the way. He has spent much of his career supporting educational and scientific computing, including prior engagements at the University of Maryland, College Park and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He has also worked in the private sector, supporting a variety of commercial clients. In addition to his system administration career, Mark worked professionally as a web software developer for three years, giving him additional experience and perspective on the information technology business.

Mark is a native of Chicago and grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. He graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Computer Science, in 1996. He has been based in the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area since then, and currently lives in Greenbelt.
